30 Years since: Mad Cow disease: The British Government announce that all cattle over the age of 30 months should be killed to prevent the spread. 80,000 cattle were destroyed.

30 Years since: The Unabomber, Ted Kacynski, was arrested

50 Years since: Apple was founded

60 Years since: Bobbi Gibb became the first woman to run the Boston marathon

60 Years since: The Soviet Union's Luna 10 became the first spacecraft to orbit the moon.

70 Years since: Elvis Presley' song Heartbreak Hotel became his first to reach No.1 in the US music charts.

100 years since: Birth of Queen Elizabeth II

100 years since: Birth of Hugh Hefner – founder of Playboy
